The Power of Backlinks: What is Backlink(ing) and How they Benefit Your Website
What are backlinks? Backlinks, also known as inbound links, are what makes a successful website. The more backlinks you have the better your ranking will be. If you want your website to rank high and get noticed by people on search engines like Google then start focusing on what is important: getting quality backlinks that can help grow your business! In this article, we’ll discuss what they are and how they benefit your site.
Why are backlinks important?
Backlinks are what happens when another website links to your site. They’re what search engines use to see which sites have the most important content, and they’re how you get more traffic without spending a dime on advertising.
What’s better than getting someone else to do all of your marketing for you? Getting them to help boost what you’re already doing!
Engaging with what others are talking about and what they find valuable is a great way to give backlinks.
To get more of these, you need to ask for them by submitting your content on other blogs or websites (with their permission) in the form of guest blogging or article marketing. This will not only help your site rank higher on search engines but will also give you an enormous boost in traffic, engagement, and social shares.
Domain authority is important to any website. It is what determines the rank of a site in search engine results pages (SERPs). The higher your domain authority, the better it will be for you and your business.
The way that Google ranks websites is to give more weight to domains with high domain authority. How do you get this? By acquiring backlinks from other reputable websites.
When you get backlinks from other sources, what Google looks for are links that have been approved by a third party which will help your site rank higher in SERPs.
Your page rank tells Google what your site is about and what to expect. The higher the page rank, the more authoritative Google deems it as being a credible source of information on that topic. It’s why you see sites like Wikipedia often near the top when searching for things like “What are backlinks”.
A link from another website to yours is called an inbound link. Google counts these incoming links as votes, and what they’re saying is that your site deserves to rank higher than the other sites linking into it.
If you have backlinks coming in from authoritative sources like Wikipedia or Alexa top 100 sites, then you should see a nice jump in page rank over time. The more quality content on your site, the more backlinks you’ll attract.
How do I build a backlink?
The best way to build a backlink is by creating what people would want. For example, if you are a woman’s fashion retailer you may want to create a blog about what brand name handbags will be in this season and what colors they come in. If the content on your website or blog post has value for other people then it is more likely that they will share it and link to what you wrote.
Remember, the key is making content for other people instead of just yourself. The best way to do this is by putting your customer’s needs first and creating what they want. You can also post on social media sites like Facebook or Twitter about what kind of shoes are what style this season and what colors they come in.
The more people that see your content the more likely it is to be shared, link back or linked to by other bloggers who have made similar posts on their blog. This way you can build a quality set of links that will help improve your website’s ranking.
Guest posting is a great way to build backlinks and get exposure. It also helps with SEO. You are building links for other companies, they will notice what you’re doing and give you the opportunity for more guest postings on their website as well!
You can rank higher in Google search results by getting quality content from outside sources that link back to your website.
Guest posting is what we call “white hat” SEO, as it’s a legitimate and ethical way of improving your site rankings in Google search results by increasing the number of quality links you have pointing back to your own content.
An even more effective way to gain links is by developing relationships with influencers. This might sound difficult, but what you need to do first is research and find out who your target niche is active users on social media platforms like Twitter or Facebook. If they have a blog where you can leave comments on their posts then that would be even better. The next step is to reach out to them, and what you should do is send an email introducing yourself as well as your website or blog.
If you want some help with this process then what I would recommend that you try out first are websites like BuzzStream for managing relationships with influencers, Google Alerts which will email you when new content is published by your target influencers, and Keyword Tool for tracking what topics are trending.
Broken-link building method
The definition of the broken link method is to find websites that have a lot of high-quality backlinks and then to contact the webmasters with links to your site, in hopes they will either add it or link back.
This is what you should do:
Find out what sites are linking to what you want them to link to. Find one main keyword phrase for example “allegations against trump” or “how to lose weight etc.
Find what sites are linking with the keyword phrase you want and find their backlinks using Google webmaster tools, Majestic SEO, ahrefs to see what other keywords they rank for on top of what you need them to link about.
Note what sites are linking to what you want them to link about. Then contact the webmasters and ask if they will add your site or make a backlink for this keyword phrase.
If the website that is linked already has links in it, then adding another one wouldn’t be much of an issue as Google would see it as a good thing.
If the website that is linked already has links in it, then adding another one wouldn’t be much of an issue as Google would see it as a good thing. However, if they have very few or no backlinks to what you want them to link about on their site and what your content talks about, you’ll be more likely to get what you want.
Search engines love inbound links
It’s a fact that search engines like Google love backlinks. The more quality backlinks, the higher your website will rank for a specific keyword.
There are many ways to get inbound links on your site and they can be done at low or no cost:
- Submit articles with relevant keywords to article directories; make sure that you include an informative introduction paragraph followed by two or three paragraphs of content
- Submit articles with relevant keywords to blog directories; make sure that you include an informative introduction paragraph followed by two or three paragraphs of content
- Comment on other blogs and websites in your niche. Make sure the comment is well written, insightful, and not spammy
- Post helpful information on social media sites like Facebook, Twitter, etc.
- Post helpful tutorials on YouTube
- Build links to your website with a link building service or by doing it yourself and submitting articles, videos, or other relevant content to sites that offer backlinks for free.
To build quality links the site needs to have good content to be considered authoritative for most search engines.
How do I monitor backlinks?
There are several free tools you can use to monitor your backlinks, for example:
Each of these will provide you with valuable insight into what’s happening on your site and what people are saying about it online! If you want to monitor backlinks, in particular, make sure the tool allows for this. You should also check if there are any limits to what the tool can monitor for you.
When using a free backlink monitoring service, make sure that it’s not just telling you what other websites are linking to yours – but what your website is doing for them! Are there many people visiting their site from yours? Is there much social media activity on your page? These are what you should be looking for.
One way to measure your backlinks’ effectiveness is by calculating their page rank, which is a numerical indicator of the popularity and relevance of the site that’s linking to you. If this number increases over time, it means more people are clicking on links from other sites in order to get closer or go to your site.
You can also calculate what’s called Domain Authority, which is a proxy for how well-established the linking website is in terms of page rank and reputation. Both these numbers are out of 100 so it’s important to keep an eye on them!
In Google Search Console checking backlinks
Checking backlinks in Google Search Console is a good way to keep track of what’s happening on your site. You can request features like alerts that will send you notifications when the status of any backlinks change, such as if they go from nofollowed to followed and vice versa.
It is also possible (though not always necessary) to remove links or entire domains from Google Search Console – a process that is also sometimes called “disavowing” backlinks.
Lastly, if you’re not sure what to do with the information Google Search Console provides about your site’s backlinks, here are some simple steps:
- Have a look at what websites link to yours and what pages on their site they link from;
- Check what links are followed and what links aren’t;
- Look at what websites link to your competitors, but do not link to you. This is a great indicator of what domains might be worth pursuing backlinks!
Monitoring the effectiveness of your website’s backlinks is an important part of what you need to do as a webmaster. It can also provide valuable insight into what parts of your site might still need work or what kinds of content are popular online!
What is backlink? Backlinks are links that connect one website’s pages with another website, thereby creating an indirect connection between the two sites.
What makes a good backlink?
Quality backlinks are generally a backlink that is dofollow links and have high a Domain Authority and Page Rank.
Having many high DA links is a good sign and Google will consider these for your site’s rankings.
Google uses backlinks as one of the ranking factors, in fact, it is still one of the most important ones at that!
What do backlinks have to do with SEO? Backlinks are an indication of how popular or relevant your website is online.
Linking to relevant sites is important to your search engine optimization strategy.
Relevant links tell Google that you are a site with content related to the topic of the linking website, which means your site will rank higher for these keywords!
High-quality sites also tend to link back to relevant websites and this is something we like in our rankings because it signals good content and great usability.
Include target keyword in the anchor text of the link
Using targeted keywords in your anchor text is a great way to give your link more authority and relevance. This will help you rank higher in search engine results pages (SERPs) for those keywords, get more backlinks from other websites, as well as improve the click-through rates of visitors that arrive on your website via these links.
While most people are aware of this SEO tactic, not as many are aware of how to do it effectively.
The best way to include keywords in your anchor text is by following the KISS principle: Keep It Simple, Stupid! This means that you should only use a few words or phrases that will help others find what they’re looking for on your website.
For example, if you are linking to a blog post about different types of backlinks, you could use the following anchor text:
“Want more authority and relevance? Check out this cool article on how to improve your SEO using targeted keywords.”
This will not only give people who find your link an immediate sense of what the content is all about, but it will also tell search engine crawlers what you want to rank for.
Notice how the anchor text of this link is “Want more authority and relevance?” rather than just something like:
“Improve your SEO”.
This makes it easier for people who find the URL in a SERP to know that they are linking to an article on backlinks, and this will help the site rank higher for that keyword.
To include keywords in your anchor text effectively, you need to be aware of which words are most relevant and commonly used when searching for your website or content. For example, if you’re a personal finance blogger who writes about budgeting tips, then “budgeting” would be a keyword to include in your anchor text.
If you are linking from the homepage of your finance blog, then it might look like this:
“You can find all our budgeting tips here.” This is simple and straightforward for people who click on the link. It will also tell search engine crawlers what content is on your page, and they will rank you higher in SERPs for that keyword.
Conversely, if you are linking to an article about how to start a blog from the homepage of your finance blog, then it might look like this:
“Find out what’s required before starting a new blogging career.” This is also a straightforward sentence that people will find understandable, but it is also more specific to the content on this page. That specificity can help your site rank higher in SERPs for “starting a blog” or “blogging career.”
Dofollowing vs. Nofollowing
You can have Dofollow links or Nofollow, depending on which one you are using can drastically affect your link strategy.
Nofollowed links are those that tell search engine crawlers not to give importance or authority to the link. They do this by adding a nofollow tag in their code, which instructs the search engines not to follow the link and visit your website.
Dofollowing is when you have an external site linking back to your website. This is what you want to have happened because it will give your site authority and relevancy in the eyes of search engines. If someone were linking back to a blog post on different types of backlinks from their finance website, they might use “Check out this cool article about how different types of links can help with ranking.”
Notice how this is a more specific anchor text that gives people who are clicking on the link to your site an idea of what they will find when they get there.
The important thing with dofollowing vs. nofollowing is that you want to be careful not to overuse it because this could lead to a negative effect.
How many links should a website have to rank well?
So how many links should your website have to rank well? That depends on your niche and level of competition.
In general, the more links you have to your site, the higher it will rank. The average number of backlinks needed for a website is about 30-40. That doesn’t mean that websites with fewer than 30 are doomed to fail or those with over 40 can stop marketing their sites. In reality, all search engines use many factors in ranking a site.
For Example, in our niche (outsourcing) many of the high-ranking sites have between 2000 to 4000 backlinks ranging from DA40 to DA90, this tells me that to compete with those sites I need to match or beat them in these areas.
Your niche may only require 300 to 800 quality links to be competitive or if you’re competing with an extremely popular site (like Forbes) you may need 100,000 quality backlinks.
Do research, compare with your competitors, and base your efforts on what you find.
One of the most important factors is how many times your site or relevant pages on that site are visited by people from all over the world. This factor takes into account not only backlinks but also social media posts and other ways in which people mention you online. One way to increase visits to your website is through content marketing.
In conclusion, backlinks are an important factor in the ranking of your site. They also help you get found by Google and other search engines, which is just as valuable for a website marketing strategy.
If you don’t have any backlinks yet then start building them up now! Use these tips to find quality sites that will allow your content to be distributed on their platform and build some links from there. It’s time to show off those blog posts with pride!
Beat your competitors with quality backlinks and you’ll be on your way to ranking high in the SERPS.
