Outsourcing didn’t become popular until the 1990’s when companies needed find ways to cut operating costs in order to remain viable as well as enabling an opportunity to expand. Outsourcing is the strategy by which an organization contracts out major parts of their business operations to specialized and efficient service providers who in turn become valuable business partners for that company.

Outsourcing can be defined as “the strategic use of outside resources to perform activities traditionally handled by internal staff and resources.”

It’s not unpopular for a major brand to outsource different aspects of their business. Some of the key industries that are outsourced are customer service, telemarketing, financial services, retail, IT, pharmaceuticals, manufacturing, computer technology, and software development.

So what are some of the major brands or companies that are outsourcing?

Google: Outsources several different aspects of their business including IT, developers and virtual assistant type of work.

MySQL: Their growth strategy is primarily comprised of outsourced developers. They run millions of servers and work with organizations such as PayPal and Amazon.

Cisco Systems: Over 25% of their workforce is from offshore outsourcing and has risen to almost 45% in recent years.

Some other notable companies that outsource different parts of there business are:

Whatsapp, Slack, H&R Block, National Geographic, Farmers Insurance, Morgan Stanley and American Express.

Those are just a few companies among many others who are using outsourcing to lower operating costs. Many of the large brands would never have grown to the size they are without the support of overseas workers.
